A period of very strong winds is expected on Tuesday as a low pressure system tracks across northern UK from the west. Whilst strong winds and heavy rain are likely on Monday night the strongest winds are expected as the rain clears eastwards and winds veer northwesterly through Tuesday morning . Gales are possible inland with severe gales possible around exposed coasts and hills in Northern Ireland, Northern England, North Wales, Southern and Eastern Scotland.

Some heavy rain tonight with gales developing, turning much colder.
THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT:
Some dry spells early evening, especially across the east but rain will soon reach western counties and become persistent. Early tonight heavy rain will spread to all parts and gales will develop. Overnight becoming drier but Northwesterly gales strengthening. Minimum temperature 5 deg C (41 deg F).
Strong or gale force Northwest winds, with severe gales along exposed northern and eastern coasts. Heavy squally showers, some of hail, but also brief sunny intervals. Feeling much colder. Maximum temperature 11 deg C (52 deg F).
OUTLOOK FOR WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY:
A cloudy much milder day with outbreaks of rain on Wednesday. Staying fairly cloudy with patchy rain on Thursday but with a few bright intervals. Bright with showers on Friday.
