The hosts took the lead after six minutes with a Mat Berquist kick, after the New Zealander missed from an earlier effort.

But Ulster responded five minutes later as Cave scored the opening try of the game and the conversion was added by Ruan Pienaar.

The first half finished with Mark Anscombe's side 7-3 up.

Treviso reduced the gap to just one point shortly after the restart when Berquist kicked his second penalty on 49 minutes.

Diack then raced through the Italian defence to score Ulster's second try and Pienaar added the extras to move the visitors 14-6 ahead at the Stadio di Monigo.

A third and fourth penalty from Berquist kept Treviso in touch but Ulster held on take the points and move back up the Pro12 table to third.

The result also keeps them in the running for a place in the semi-final playoffs with eight games to go.
