Two months after taking up the reins, Rodgers will be hoping to get off to a good start when his side take on West Brom in an away game on Saturday.

"Players and managers, you look forward to the competition and obviously the real competition begins at the weekend," he said at a press conference.

"Everyone's excited and looking forward to it."

For Rodgers, the biggest challenge presented by the season ahead is to bring stability to the Anfield club after the sacking of Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish.

Last season, the Kop faithful had to endure some disappointing results which saw them finish eighth in the Premiership table and trail fierce rivals Everton for the first time since 2005.

"Just to keep improving, that the biggest challenge of all," Rodgers admitted.

"Everyone wants to win trophies. That's why you come to a club like this here - you want to win titles. For us, the main objective this year is to show improvement and gain stability within the club."

In the first month, Liverpool will have to take on tough opponents Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United - but their new boss is ready for the challenge.
