Manager Brendan Rodgers didn't take charge of Liverpool against QPR after falling ill with a virus, as Luis Suarez inspired the side to a comprehensive 3-0 victory on Sunday.

The Carnlough man became sick in London and was too unwell to be on the touchline.

He was sent home by the medical team along with back-up goalie Brad Jones and head of performance Glen Driscoll.

Club doctor Zaf Iqbal said there was a risk of the bug spreading to other squad members.

"It was impossible for Brendan, Glen and Brad to attend the game," he told before the game.

"They are not fit to be at the match and any contact with the rest if the squad could cause the bug to spread to more of the playing staff."

Assistant manager Colin Pascoe and Coach Mike Marsh deputised at Loftus Road for the Premier League clash.

Liverpool dominated from the outset. Suarez got the visitors off to a flyer with two goals inside the opening 16 minutes before Daniel Agger nodded them further ahead in the 28th minute.

The defeat leaves QPR bottom and eight points adrift of safety heading into a tough January, which starts with a trip to rivals Chelsea.
