O'Neill suffered a dislocated collar bone during Saturday's 2-2 Irish Cup draw with Linfield at Windsor Park.
The injury is expected to keep him on the sidelines for up to four months.
Outfield player Chris Morrow took O'Neill's place in goal as Crusaders didn't have a replacement on the bench.
Fortunately the transfer window remains open until the end of January allowing the Crues to find a replacement for O'Neill before the replay and the Irn Bru Cup final with Cliftonville.
