The Blues' Peter Thompson missed a penalty after 40 minutes which was the only notable moment from a dull yet Linfield-dominated first half.

There were good chances for the Northern Irish side and a headed goal from Mark McAllister was ruled out for a foul on 76 minutes.

Torshavn hit the post on 77 minutes - Lukasz Cieslewicz was their best chance of success.

Meanwhile, Portadown also drew 0-0 away to Macedonia's FK Shkendija in the first leg of their Europa League first qualifying round tie.

The Ports had been given less than a week to prepare for the logistically problematic trip to Macedonia and battled temperatures over 90F.

David Miskelly produced a string of saves and Redman, Breen, Casement and Gartland defended the Ports against a late onslaught from their opponents.

The second leg will be played at Shamrock Park next Tuesday.
