Meet the motorcross champ, aged 7

Ross Simpson, from Waringstown, is Ulster and Ireland's youngest ever 50cc champion at the grand old age of seven.

He was barely able to walk when he first jumped on a bike as a toddler - and loved it.

The Ulster and Irish titles have came in just his second year racing and now he is planning to move up to compete in the 65cc class.

Ross's third season in the sport kicks off in March.

Under the watchful of eyes of his father Bobby and brother Stewart, both former champions themselves, the Co Down youngster's career is definitely on the right track.

His proud dad told UTV: "He's one of the youngest ones to win both the Irish and the Ulster at the same time, most of the riders would normally win it in their final year."

However, Bobby pointed out that his son achieved this earlier than usual - the year before he plans to leave the 50cc category.

Between school and other activities, Ross manages to get in two practise sessions a week.

The primary school pupil said of his achievements to date: "I felt really proud and happy and I love motorcross because you get to race and meet people."
