The 25-year-old said his equipment went missing following his flight in from the United States.

McIlroy tweeted United Airlines on Tuesday morning to ask what had happened.

He wrote: "Landed in Dublin yesterday morning from Newark and still no golf clubs... Sort of need them this week... Can someone help!?"

A number of people offered to lend McIlroy their clubs before United Airlines replied to say they will make sure the equipment is returned in time for this week's competition in Co Cork.

The airline tweeted: "We have good news. Your clubs will be in tomorrow and we'll deliver them to the tournament for you."
