Meanwhile Crusaders face a last-four trip to either Dungannon Swifts or Donegal Celtic following their win over Coleraine.

The Sky Blues went ahead in the sixth minute when Gary McCutcheon finished at the back post, but the visitors were reduced to ten men when Allan Jenkins was sent off for a second yellow card three minutes before the break.

Newry levelled on the stroke of half time when Marty Haveron struck from close range, but former Newry player Alan Davidson grabbed a debut goal in the 76th minute when he was quickest to the rebound after Tony Kane's free kick was kept out by Newry stopper Gareth Buchanan.

Elsewhere a Peter Thompson hat-trick put Linfield on their way to the last four as they cruised to a 4-0 win over cup minnows Coagh United.

Phillip Lowry opened the Blues' account in the 26th minute with a neat headed finish, before Thompson weighed in with his first of the afternoon two minutes later when he poked home after Johnny York failed to fully deal with a Daryl Fordyce shot.

The striker's second came from a cross from Stephen Douglas in the 68th minute, and Thompson made sure of the match ball eight minutes when he fired in from the edge of the box.

In the game at Suffolk Road a late strike from Conor Forker ensured a replay for Dungannon Swifts against Donegal Celtic.

The Belfast Hoops took the lead two minutes after the restart when Ryan Henderson headed in from a corner.

However, Dungannon rallied, and got their reward when substitute Forker nodded the equaliser four minutes from time to set up a replay at Stangmore Park on Monday 12 March.

Finally Crusaders earned their spot in the last four with a 2-0 win over Coleraine at the Coleraine Showgrounds.

The visitors looked the more dangerous side over the 90 minutes, and went deservedly in front when Chris Morrow popped up to head in the opener in the 36th minute.

Coleraine pressed for an equaliser in the second half, but were caught on the break in injury time when Timmy Adamson teed up substitute Matthew Snoddy to fire home from 18 yards.
