He finished up with the Sheffield Steelers two weeks ago to return to the Odyssey based team.

The second all time leading scorer with Todd Kelman's side, he re-joins the team he won a league title with in 2006, the Knock Out Cup and the Challenge Cup in 2009 and a Playoff Championship in 2010.

During his 230 games as a Giant, Shields managed 107 goals and 204 assists for 311 points.

He trails only George Awada, who has clocked up 334 points, on the franchise scoring charts.

However, if Shields continues the form he maintained as a Giant, he could break Awada's record by this season's end.

With the Steelers, Shields had scored 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 30 games.

Todd Kelman, the Giant's general manager, said: "I spoke to Sheffield earlier this week before signing Colin so they knew we were interested.

"We came to an agreement with the Steelers and there is no issue between the two teams over this move," he explained.

"I can assure you there were no conversations with Colin prior to him leaving Sheffield. The Steelers owner and management know this," he added.

"The Steelers are a great organisation and they took care of Colin so there was no issue with that."

Kelman concluded: "Sometimes players don't find they fit with a team and want a change. I assume this is why Colin decided to leave."

Shields makes his return to the Odyssey Arena on Thursday when the Giants face off against the Braehead Clan at 7pm.
