The game was forced into overtime after the match ended in a 2-2 draw - but the Panthers eventually clawed back the lead to win 3-2.
The visitors began the game in the lead thanks to a powerplay goal from David Ling.
Anthony Stewart then scored for the side, doubling their score to 2-0 before the intermission.
Craig Peacock and Greg Stewart managed scores for the Elite League leaders to level the game.
And although the Panthers managed a perfect three goals out of three in the shootout decider, the Giants still managed to earn a valuable point.
The result means the Panthers have moved within four points of the summit with two games in hand.
