But it was not the only successful match that was made over the weekend.
Susanne Hetherington thought she'd won a ballot to present the man of the match award to Adam Keefe at the Odyssey on Saturday - but soon discovered that she was in for a very different proposal.
Her German partner Jan Pape disguised in the players kit, posed the big question, backing up the saying that sport is more than just a passion.
The biggest cheer of the night was undoubtedly when Susanne said 'yes'.
Returning to the action, on Sunday, Evan Cheverie wasted no time getting the Giants off the mark with an early strike after just two minutes.
The Giants continued to show their early season promise adding a second through Calvin Elfring.
The Devils did show something of a comeback pulling it back to two apiece but that only served to spur the Giants on - regaining the lead through Jeffrey Szwez.
The Giants took full control of the game from then on and in the third period hit four more goals without reply to leave the Devils devastated after a fantastic second period comeback.
Chris Higgins was the first to score in the third period, decking his way past Cardiff's defencemen and firing the puck past Joe Myers in the Cardiff net.
Just over five minutes later Myers found himself beaten again, this time by Giants Captain Adam Keefe who put his team 5-2 ahead with a top shelf effort.
The final two Giants goals were scored by Robby Sandrock on the powerplay and by the Man of the Match Keefe with a great shorthanded play after receiving Darryl Lloyd's pass.
After the opening weekend of the 2013/14 Elite League, it is Paul Adey's men who top the standings with four points following two wins in two nights.
The Giants next game is on Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena when the Coventry Blaze come to town, face-off 7pm.
