Adam Keefe put the Giants ahead in the first period before Jan Safar levelled for the visitors.
However, in the second period Kevin Saurette, Dustin Whitecotton and Kevin Phillips cranked up the pressure and Belfast moved three clear before the final 20 minutes.
Saurette scored again and Chris Higgins got a sixth goal for the Giants before a late Edinburgh rally saw Richard Hartmann and Michal Benadik level the final period.
The home side dominated, what was their first home game in five weeks, and Saurette's two goals and an assist earned him the man of the match award for the match.
The Giants remain four points ahead of nearest rivals Braehead in the Elite League standings.
Next up, the Fife Flyers visit the Odyssey.
