The Belfast Giants carried their regular season form into the play-offs on Saturday night, securing a comfortable first leg win over the Stars.
The Belfast side dominated the opening period but only had a solitary strike from Jeff Mason at 11.33 to show for their dominance as they outshot the Stars 14-3.
A further goal came from Craig Peacock and the Giants increased their lead with a power play goal from Robert Dowd at 31.39, with Jon Pelle added a fourth at 36.18.
Despite having more shots on goal in the third period, it took the Giants until inside the final minute before they got their fifth goal of the night when Mike Hoffman netted with 57 seconds remaining.
Saturday night's victory means the Elite League Playoff quarter-final return clash, which will take place in Dundee on Sunday, will be a formality for the side.
