The reigning all Ireland champions now continue their defence of the national title against the Connacht champions in February.
Portaferry trailed by eight points at half time but never looked like troubling Loughgiel who increased their advantage after the break.
The Down side had actually scored first but Shea Casey's goal helped Loughgiel into a 1-12 to 0-7 interval lead.
Loughgiel seized the initiative in the second half and Casey turned provider for Liam Watson to score a second goal from close in to virtually seal the outcome.
