Around 120 competitors assembled for the event on Thursday night, with the Lord Mayor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir flagging off the first cars for round four of the FIA European Rally Championship.
Stages will be held in Co Down and Co Antrim before finishing at the Titanic Belfast venue on Saturday night.
Irish driver Craig Breen was the first off the starting line at the event at Belfast City Hall.
He told UTV: "We're full of confidence so we're just going to see how this weekend goes.
"For sure I'll give it everything I can and see how our speed is, but it's just a pleasure to drive at home when you spend so much time away.
"You kind of forget about how good the roads are here."
Like other motorsports the event is dominated by male competitors.
However, Claire Mole will be a co-driver for one of the teams during this weekend's race.
She said: "The Circuit of Ireland is great for spectators.
"Everybody gets really behind it and it's a real challenge.
"The drivers all agree that the motorsport fans here make the Easter weekend extra special."
