Just two years ago, Stewart was playing for the most famous team in the world - the Montreal Canadiens - and now he's travelled to Northern Ireland to join Doug Christiansen's side.

"He looks great - he's big, he's strong, he skates well. He's a guy who can really control a puck," Christiansen told UTV.

"He's a different type of player to what we've had before."

Every time you're a league champion, everyone guns for you - but we like that. Bring it on.

And Stewart himself is excited to get on the ice for his new team.

"I've heard nothing but good things about Belfast and I wanted to come here and experience it myself," he said, adding that he hopes to put his experiences in the NHL to good use for the Giants.

The Giants took to the ice on Friday morning, in preparation for Saturday's friendly against Holland's Tillburg Trappers.

"It's a whole new group of players, a whole new challenge - so hopefully, it'll be a lot of fun," Christiansen said.

The side will be hoping to build on the strong performances they put in last season, which culminated in their clinching of the league title.
