The 24-year-old switched from AC Milan to Anfield as part of a £16m deal.

In doing so, he has become Carnlough man Rodgers' ninth signing of the summer.

Balotelli said: "I'm very happy. We've been talking about coming here and now I'm happy to be here."

The signing of Balotelli, who helped Manchester City win the Premier League title in 2012, comes as one of the shock moves of the summer

It is understood he has penned a three-year deal with Liverpool - with the option of a fourth year - and will wear his favoured No 45 shirt.

However he will not be registered in time to play against City on Monday evening.

Brendan Rodgers' side finished second in the league last season and the Co Antrim-born manager has strengthened his squad over the summer, after the departure of Luis Suarez.

"Liverpool are one of the best teams here in England and the football is very good here. It's a great team with young players, and that's why I came here," added Balotelli.

Fair point David. They had a double shift last night, Milton Keynes and Glasgow.

Surely there are enough 'temperamental' players in the premiership without bringing in more to cause mayhem and injury by erratic behaviour. Why does the world like 'bad boys'.

Iain in Belfast. Only one circus in town this week fella, and it was in Milton Keynes last night. The clowns were the 11 Mr Man Utd's saviour put on the field.

While Crusaders may be bossing the Danske Bank Premiership, it was their North Belfast rivals Cliftonville who made the headlines again this weekend.
