The incident was reported in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Investigating officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

Lord Maurice Morrow DUP MLA has branded the damage as shameful and deplorable.

"The desecration of wreaths laid at Moy cenotaph during the early hours of Saturday morning was nothing short of repugnant.

"By their very nature, these wreaths are a sign of remembrance to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country and to have their memory treated in this callous manner is shameful and deplorable," the Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said.

"I urge anyone with any information to bring it to police in order that those responsible for such a deeply insensitive act of vandalism and brought before the courts."

@Phil in Belfast. Are you saying that war memorials are protestant symbols if so why? My grandfather is on the memorial in Derry & buried in France, a nationalist from the Bog. This protestant "onwership" of war memorials is a horse that won,t run. If the thugs who did this did it for the reason that it,s a protestant symbol then maybe Unionist highjacking of memorials needs examined. Many nationalists where uncomfortable with the way unionist symbolism was displayed at memorials and stayed away.

GERARD in BELFAST===Unfortunately when someone or something that is perceived to be of the 'other' community is attacked it usually comes from those with a sectarian mindset.Unless this type of mindset is addressed we will never see the end of this type of behaviour being perpetrated on places of worship == orange halls==cenotaphs==and ultimately human lives.Even kids attending cross community events are targeted. It is ALL so very wrong. If children were educated together we may go some way to eradicating this type of thinking and so live in a society where sectarian motivation would be the last reason for such attacks.

Sadly this is not a one of for this cenotaph .it has been subjected to this anti social behaviour before it has been disfaced in the past it has the figure of the soldier head removed.I would agree that a number of these incidents would probably be committed by drunks from the nearby bar.however there is an element from within the surrounding area where who like a thief in the night, come in cause trouble and turn and disappear we have had halls attacked people intimidated by these faceless people.I know that there are cctv cameras in the moy square hope they catch those responsible .however when it has been put forward to put cameras up in the local graveyard it shows that there is a bigger problem within the village.a higher visible police presence may help to deter and reassure locals with in the village

Gerard, you are right in one aspect, this may have nothing to do with secterianism. Never the less you could still say it is the act of complete scum. If a few drunks did this to the grave of your loved ones I doubt you would be so glib about it. The people who do these sort of things show a lack of respect to everyone who is actually religious.

I love how everyone automatically assumes it was sectarian, could be a few drunks coming home from the bar for all anyone knows. Some people wreck stuff just for the sake of it, doesn't always have to have a "sectarian" motive behind it.
