Shortly after 10pm on Tuesday three masked men, carrying guns and baseball bats, approached the car which was parked in Randalstown Forest.
Three 19-year-old women and two men were in the car as the gang smashed the windows.
The gang then closed the three women in the boot, before assaulting the two men, aged 26 and 21.
The male victims were taken to hospital for treatment to their injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
The women were not hurt during the assault.
Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Roy Thompson said: "I was appalled to hear of the attack in Randalstown Forest and condemn it totally.
"It would have been a horrific experience for the young men and women who were attacked and I appeal for anyone with any information to contact PSNI."
DUP MLA Trevor Clarke said the attack was out of character for the area, which is most commonly used for dog walking.
"Rather than people measuring out their own justice, I would encourage as many people as possible to give the information to the police to bring people to book, as opposed to laying out their own justice themselves," he told UTV.
Alliance Antrim Councillor Alan Lawther added that he was shocked by the viciousness of the attack.
"The men responsible for this attack are very dangerous individuals who are adding nothing to our society.
"This must have been a very traumatic event for both the women who were held prisoner in the car and the men who were assaulted," he said.
