The crash happened at Roshure Road on Friday at around 8.40am.
The female driver of the car was taken to Antrim Area Hospital where she remains in a serious condition, police confirmed.
The bus was taking pupils to Kilronan School for children with special needs.
A woman driver, a female school attendant, an eight-year-old girl and an 18-year-old disabled man - who were all on the mini-bus - were taken to hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
John McPoland, of the NI Ambulance Service, said that five vehicles were sent to the scene and one officer, who took control of the situation.
The North Eastern Education and Library Board (NEELB) has confirmed the mini-bus had been privately hired to transport the pupils.
In a statement, the board has thanked the emergency services for their quick response and for providing comfort and reassurance to the pupils at the scene of the accident.
Roshure Road was closed for most of the day, but has since re-opened.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
