The incident happened just after 4pm on Saturday in the shop on Agincourt Avenue in the Holylands area.

A man covering his face with a scarf entered the shop just behind a male customer.

He then threatened the shop assistant forcing her to her knees and demanded money from the till.

He also took cigarettes from the display case before making off on foot.

The woman, police said, was uninjured in the ordeal, but left badly shaken.

Police described the man as in his late 20s, around 5' 7" in height of medium build.

He was wearing a blue baseball cap, blue jeans, a khaki green hip length waterproof coat with a green scarf pulled up round his face and black gloves.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
