Triple H and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson both urged the brave Co Antrim five-year-old to "stay strong", before Sheamus added: "keep going fella!"

Oscar, who has been battling a rare form of childhood cancer, replied: "Thanks Dwayne!! My big cousin Eamonn will be very jealous LOL #lovestherock".

Hundreds of people including a host of famous faces have sent messages to Oscar Knox after his parents started a social media campaign to highlight his fight against neuroblastoma.

He has been battling the disease for three years, but last month the family revealed his condition had deteriorated and said they have now "moved to a phase of managing his pain".

Oscar moved into the Children's Hospice where his parents have paid tribute to the "amazing" teams who are caring for him, as well as thanking everyone who has offered support.

They said: "The staff looking after Oscar on a daily basis are like angels, with hearts of gold. Nothing is too much trouble, and nothing is impossible. Oscar's every request is met with a smile! Oscar and Izzie absolutely love it here, they call it 'The Holiday House', which means absolutely everything.

"Once again, we are so grateful to everyone who has supported or helped us in any way. Particularly the amazing teams in both the Children's Hospital and now the Children's Hospice.

"Nothing can take our pain away but some people really make a difference. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Oscar and Izzie - you deserve our biggest thanks.

"You are amazing people and we love you more than words can say xxxxx."

Oscar A little boy from Ireland. They knew him far and wide His bravery inspired us, we loved the little guy His body was so weary, but his spirit was so strong He fought this horrible illness, he soldiered on and on His family so loved him, they never left his side His illness broke their hearts I'm sure, but they always made him smile One day they were all together and he whispered with a sigh I want to go to Neverland, way up in the sky To go into the dodie shop, a sight I want to see I'll go there in the tractor, I'm pretty sure it's green To were my tummy hurts no more, no needles and no pills I will run and play and giggle as I climb the cloudy hills So his mum and dad they held him tight, and said it's time to go We know we have to let you, it hurts us even though He breathed his final earthly breath, and smiled a happy sigh He floated up to neverland, way up in God's blue sky As he floated up to neverland, our lanterns lit his way He surely did unite us, for this little boy we prayed God bless you little Oscar, play football in the sky You will never be forgotten, so many you inspired Sleep well little Angel x
