The incident happened on Hawthorn Street, adjacent to the Falls Road and Springfield Road, on Saturday at around 1am.

The living room of one property was extensively damaged while the window of the other house was scorch damaged.

Two men in their 20s were living in each of the properties.

Tyres of a car parked in the area were also slashed.

Vincent Bradley, the landlord of the property most severely damaged, told UTV that he believed the attack was attempted murder.

"I am disgusted. Look at the area. It's quiet, peaceful, lovely - and you have people going around throwing petrol bombs in the window.

"You don't expect this in any area - let alone here."

SDLP Lower Falls Councillor Colin Keenan lives across the street and was at home at the time of the attack.

He told UTV that he heard a window smashing and rushed out to see a house on fire.

"I'm clear in what I'm saying which is - this was attempted murder. Whoever done it needs to be caught - and caught quick."

Detectives would ask anyone who may have witnessed the attack or anyone who has any information to contact them.

This was a house that my daughter could have been in when it was petrol bombed, just thank god that nobody got hurt and nobody was in the property, was definetly attempt of murder

I was around Hawthorn street a few hours before this attack, its a very quiet and peaceful street. Its very unusual for an attack of this kind to happen here. I noticed nothing suspicious whatsoever.
