Temperatures have continued to soar in Northern Ireland on Thursday.

Portrush in Co Antrim and Magilligan in Co Londonderry were among the warmest spots with highs of over 27C.

However it has been a warm day right across the region with most places, including Belfast, reaching over 20C.

John Wylie from the Met Office said: "It has been another scorcher today.

"Temperatures have exceeded 27C in Magilligan and Portrush and it has been similar everywhere, except for a few thunderstorms in the far west of Co Fermanagh. They have seen a few sharp showers and some thunder and lightning."

More of the same is expected on Friday.

And while forecasters don't think it will be quite as warm, temperatures are still predicted to be in the mid-20s, especially in inland areas.

However, it will be cooler on Saturday with some showery rain.

The Met Office outlook for the weekend said: "Cloudy with some rain on Saturday, heavy for a time but drying up later.

"Bright with an isolated shower on Sunday but feeling fresher. Dry on Monday."
