The incidents happened in the Ballybeen Estate area on Monday, police said.

Alliance East Belfast MLA Judith Cochrane has expressed her concerns over the attempted abductions.

"As a mother to two young girls, I know the dreadful thoughts that go through a parents mind when they hear of this story, she said.

"I would urge parents to remind their children of the dangers of being approached by a stranger.

"The person who tried to abduct these girls must urgently apprehended by the police, so I would urge anybody with any information about it to contact the police."

Anyone with information has been asked to come forward.

Why is there no description of the suspect? How can the public help or be vigilant if they don't know who to look for? The police really are not being helpful in these type of cases.
