The final change from analogue to digital takes place this Wednesday when all analogue channels will be permanently switched off.
Belfast City Council has been encouraging residents to use it as an opportunity to recycle their sets as they get rid of the old and embrace the new.
It has resulted in the city's recycling centres turning into TV graveyards in recent days.
"Belfast City Council has four recycling centres across the city so we are calling on everyone to help us recycle as many of these TVs as possible," said councillor Pat McCarthy.
"Research indicates that only one third of us recycle electrical appliances that we have replaced, and a further 10% put redundant/unused electrical appliances straight into the bin, yet TVs can easily be broken down and the parts recycled into something new.
"The council is committed to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill. We encourage everyone to take their unwanted TV set to their nearest recycling centre to be recycled and not to place TVs in either the black bin or the recycling bin where they are not accepted."
A collection service is also being offered for those who can't get to a recycling depot.
Belfast residents can access it by calling 028 9027 0230 and arranging a pick-up time.
To mark the full switchover UTV and BBC are joining forces to simultaneously broadcast a live entertainment programme from Belfast on Tuesday.

It will be shown on UTV and BBC One NI at 10.35pm on 23 October.
