The Future Anti-Surface Guided Weapon system will be manufactured by the company's plant in east Belfast.
The system is aimed at deflecting the threat from small ships and fast attack craft.
It is a lightweight, precision strike missile, designed to be fired from land, sea or air.
First Minister Peter Robinson said: "The talents of Northern Ireland's manufacturing and engineering labour force are now held in high esteem across the global aerospace and defence industries and today's announcement is further evidence of this."
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster added: "This is significant contract for Thales and highlights the expertise and highly skilled workforce here in Northern Ireland."
Thales is a centre of excellence for missile design and manufacture within the Thales Group and it is understood that the contract will secure 60 high quality jobs and also provide additional opportunities for the supply chain.
