Serious sexual assault in south Belfast

The police have launched an investigation after a 20-year-old woman was seriously sexually assaulted in an attack in the Botanic area of south Belfast.

The incident happened at around 2am on Tuesday in the Cameron Street area of the city.

Investigating detectives have said the attacker was described as being a foreign national and was wearing a blue top.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have information in connection with the incident or noticed anything suspicious in the area to contact the PSNI Rape Crime Unit on 0845 600 8000.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
