The trouble was reported in the Woodburn Avenue and Hollies areas of the Co Antrim town.

It is understood a van and a number of bins were set on fire in the area and were blocking roads, and that several PSNI landrovers were tasked to the scene.

Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson condemned those involved in the trouble.

He added: "There is no place for violence on our streets. The people responsible are attempting to intimidate the local community, but they will not succeed.

"Their actions are not wanted by the people of Carrickfergus or Larne."

"Their actions are not wanted by the people of Carrickfergus or Larne." That sums it all up really, I hope the PSNI catch the scum responsible.

Ok lets not exaggerate here. 1 car has been set on fire in a housing estate called Woodburn. The rest of Carrickfergus is NOT affected. Stop trying to scare people
