Police hunt for school bus egg-thrower

Police have launched an appeal after a youth was reported to have attacked a group of schoolgirls with eggs in north Belfast.

One individual was reported to officers as having been involved - he was described as being about 18-years-old, around 5ft 5ins tall and wearing a blue top. He also had his face covered with a scarf.He was said to have boarded the bus and thrown eggs at the schoolgirls onboard.The PSNI initially reported that the incident happened on the Ballysillan Road just before 4pm on Wednesday, but have since issued a correction regarding the location on the Oldpark Road.According to local DUP councillor Gareth McKee, more than one person was involved in the incident.He claims five or six youths were involved in the incident, which he says was sectarian in nature."This full double-decker school bus had just left the Girls Model School and was taking pupils home to the Greater Shankill area," Mr McKee said."Some got onto the bus through the rear fire exit and threw eggs at pupils on the bottom deck, causing pupils to rush screaming to the front of the bus - with pregnant girls among those caught up in the crush."Mr McKee added that sectarian abuse was shouted at the girls."Some girls were repeatedly hit with eggs. First year pupils were particularly terrified by this horrendous ordeal. These cowardly bully-boys must be brought to justice," he said.Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has information, to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
