The warning comes after a skimming device was found on a machine in Newcastle on Saturday.

Skimming devices can be attached to a cash machine to enable criminals to copy the information on a bank card in order to lift cash from accounts.

Police are advising the public to take extra care when withdrawing money from cash machines and to report anything that may look out of place to the bank and the police.

They are also advising people to keep their pin safe and be aware of their surroundings and people around them when using machines.

What on earth are the banks and building society's doing about this.It has been an issue for years.Having worked in a technical field it really should not be a difficult issue to resolve ,with the determination of Financial institutions,Police and other interested parties,a very simple introduction of biometrics, passwords and cameras on site would be so easy to substantially reduce the crime.i won't say here but there are measures that are able to be produced that will safe guard the user. So why aren't they doing it ? Perhaps people should be claiming through the courts stress , distress caused by the lack of willing by these institutions to keep safe their money which they have a duty to do .on,y when they ha to start paying out compensation for stress caused that they might take more robust action.

Would it not make sense to tell us which machine the device was found so if we've used it we can check our accounts??

the police should publish photos of these skimming devices so the public are well aware of their appearance.
