Pair charged over fake car products

A man and woman have been charged as part of an investigation into counterfeit car products in Ballymena.

The man, aged 47, and woman, aged 44, were detained on Thursday and are accused of counterfeiting, trademark offences and money laundering.Police also seized two prestige cars owned by the pair as well as a variety of suspected counterfeit items including key fobs, badges and wheel caps from brands such as Porsche, BMW, Audi and Mercedes which were being sold online.The officer leading the investigation, Detective Inspector Todd Clements, said: "This proactive investigation was launched after a complaint by car manufacturer BMW."Following a number of searches yesterday in Ballymena, Belfast and Portstewart police have secured restraining orders on assets worth more than £1 million."The man and woman are due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Thursday 11 September.
