The internal inquiry is not linked to a previous probe in April, when four officers were suspended over alleged racist and sectarian texts, the PSNI said.
A statement continued: "The Police Service of Northern Ireland can confirm that an officer has been suspended as part of an internal investigation into alleged misconduct involving inappropriate text messaging. The investigation is being led by the PSNI's Service Improvement Department.
"The police service expects our staff to behave ethically and with the utmost integrity at all times both on and off duty.
"Any officer who fails to abide by the high standards of behaviour expected of all officers as laid out in our code of ethics can expect to be rigorously investigated."
