A man found murdered at his home in north Belfast on Friday had been stabbed a number of times.

The body of 50-year-old Pascal McAfee, known as Basil, was found at his house on Henderson Avenue, in the Cavehill Road area of the city, at around 1pm.

It was his mother, believed to be aged in her 70s, who made the discovery.

The victim was last seen buying alcohol at an off licence on Cavehill Road on Thursday at around 4pm.

Detective Chief Inspector John McVea said at at press conference on Saturday: "We are keen to know who Basil was with after that time or where he had been.

"We know that he was discovered at 1pm, but we're not sure just exactly where he's been from 4pm on the Thursday."

He confirmed that there was no clear motive as yet over the murder.

Mr McAfee, who was separated from his partner and had a son and daughter, only recently moved to the area.

Police have appealed for anyone with any information on the murder or who may have seen Mr McAfee on Thursday evening or Friday morning, to contact them.
