The body of 50-year-old Basil McAfee was discovered by a family member in the Henderson Avenue home on Friday afternoon just after 1pm.
A post mortem examination will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.
Mr McAfee was last seen in Henderson Avenue at around 4pm on Thursday, police said.
Following the discovery of the body, police closed the road and evacuated residents.
A nearby church was opened to accommodate those affected.
DUP MP Nigel Dodds, said news of the investigation had caused shock in the community.
He said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with this man's family circle who have received the worst possible news just days before Christmas.
"I appeal to anyone who can assist this major police investigation to pass on whatever information they have."
Police have appealed for anyone who was in the area between 4pm on Thursday and 1pm on Friday to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
