A man has been hit on the head and robbed as he went to a bank in south Belfast.

The incident happened at on the Ormeau Road at around 10.30am on Monday.

The victim was carrying a substantial amount of money in a bag which he was on his way to lodge in a bank, when he was attacked and the cash stolen from him.

The male robber is described as being around 30 years old, wearing a red jacket, grey tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down each leg, blue training shoes and a grey hat with white markings to the front.

He made off on foot towards Raby Street.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a man matching the suspect's descriptions to contact them.
