The attack happened in the Boundary Way in the Shankill area at around 7.40pm on Saturday.
A number of men are reported to have entered a house in the area armed with hammers and knives.
A 27-year-old victim received a stab wound to his abdomen after an altercation in the street.
He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he is said to be in a stable condition.
"A motive for the attack has yet to be established and all lines of enquiry will be investigated," a PSNI spokesperson said.
Anyone who has information or anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact police.
