The 28-year-old was assaulted in the Dunbar Link, Town Parks area of the city on 26 July, but details have just emerged.

PSNI area commander Robert Murdie said the man was punched in the face and fell back, hitting his head and sustaining a "traumatic head injury".

An unknown man was responsible for the attack, which police are investigating as an incident of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and which happened at around 2.30am that Saturday.

Appealing for information, Robert Murdie continued: "There were a number of people in the vicinity at the time of this incident and police would ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or anyone who has any information to contact Detectives at Musgrave on 0845 600 8000."
