It happened on Doagh Road on Friday shortly after 1.30am when the red coloured Citroen C2 car he was travelling in left the road near Ballyclare Cemetery.

Two men, who were also in the vehicle, were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries not believed to be life threatening.

The road was closed between Ballyclare Cemetery and Doagh Village on Friday morning for a time, but has since re-opened.

SDLP councillor Noreen McClelland said: "This is heart breaking news, and my thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family at this tragic time.

"My thoughts are also with the two men who were also in the car at the time. I hope they make a full recovery," she added.

Police are appealing for anyone who was travelling on Doagh Road at the time to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
