It is understood the 41-year-old was crushed to death by a forklift as he was moving fridge freezers and kitchen appliances at the factory in Dublin on Saturday afternoon.
An investigation has been launched by the Health and Safety Authority.
Gardaí said no-one else was injured in the accident, which happened at about 3pm at the Greenstar Recycling waste facility in Ballymount - where the man was an employee.
Gardaí believe that the injured party was attended to by four or five persons following this incident.
In a statement Greenstar Limited extended its sympathies to his family and said all work has been suspended, pending a full internal investigation.
"Greenstar is co-operating fully with the Garda and Health and Safety Authority investigations," said a spokesman. "The company expresses its sincere condolences to the deceased's family."
The deceased was moved to Tallaght Hospital where a full post-mortem is to be carried out.
Gardaí appealed for those who helped him at the scene, or for anyone who was at the centre from 2.45pm to 3.30pm on Saturday, to get in touch with them.
