A Limerick mother of two has been jailed for 6 months after stealing twelve hundred euro worth of cosmetics from shops in Limerick.

Mary Ryan-O'Brien with addresses in Raheen Square, Ballinacurra Weston and Sharwood Estate, Newcastlewest pleaded guilty to a number of theft charges at Limerick District Court.

The court heard she has over 70 previous convictions.

Mary Ryan - O' Brien admitted stealing €1,000 worth of cosmetics from Rosedale Pharmacy in Dooradoyle on the 11th of September last year, and €200 worth of cosmetics from the Body Shop in the Crescent Shopping Centre on the 12th of November, the same day she stole a Killarney Crystal Clock from Carrig Donn worth €50.

She also pleaded guilty to being a passenger in a stolen vehicle at Pineview Gardens, Moyross last Wednesday.

Defence solicitor John Devane asked for leniency for his client who is a mother of two, but judge Tom O'Donnell said the 25 year old has 76 previous convictions, many of them for theft and continues to shoplift.

The Judge said she appeared to be effectively trying to hide behind her children.

He imposed three 6 month sentences to run concurrently.
