It comes as the latest in a series of attacks on the monument at White Brae on the Ligioniel Road.
Police said the damage was reported at around 8.30pm on Friday and is being treated as a hate crime. They appealed: "Anyone with information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101".
The murders of the soldiers in March 1971 were seen as one of the key points in Northern Ireland's descent into full-scale violence in the 70s.
Two separate attacks on the memorial were carried out in June and July.
Davie Wilson from the PUP said something needs to be done in the area to the protect it and to find those responsible for causing the damage.
Meanwhile the DUP MLA William Humphrey condemned "evil acts of vandalism".
He continued: "This is thirteenth attack on this memorial since it was erected by the local RBL branch in 2010 at the location where the three young soldiers were murdered in cold blood.
"I call for clear and unequivocal condemnation from across the political spectrum and I urge anyone who can assist the police investigation into these attacks to bring that information forward."
