Two men were rescued from the water on Tuesday by a nearby fishing vessel.

Captain of the Snowdonia, Stephen Kearney told UTV how the boat started taking on water after a big wave hit it.

The footage of the sinking ship was filmed from the Tribute, whose crew rescued Captain Kearney and another man.

The man narrowly avoided being dragged down by the boat after he became entangled in a rope attached to the Snowdonia.

"A split second and you had to react," the captain said, describing how fast the sinking and the rescue effort all happened.

The video footage, which was uploaded on You Tube, shows just how quickly the boat went down.

The men were in the water for ten minutes before they were able to be dragged aboard the Tribute.

They were then airlifted to hospital by the Irish coastguard but escaped from the event unharmed.

Despite their traumatic experience, Captain Kearney says he plans to be back fishing in a few weeks and he credits the men aboard the Tribute for saving his life.
