Army bomb experts examined two suspicious objects at the Bedford Street site and carried out a controlled explosion on one object.

Police have confirmed "nothing untoward" was found after the objects were identified as fireworks.

The road was closed for a time at its junctions with McClintock Street and Clarence Street West.

Motorists were unable to access their vehicles during the alert which began at around midday.

The security operation has ended.
