Four masked men, one armed with a hammer and the rest with knives, broke into the Drumbane Road property on Saturday night.
They forced the occupants, who are all relatives, into a room then tied the adults up with cable ties before threatening them.
One of the men was left with bruises to his back after he was stuck with a hammer.
During the ordeal two further members of the family returned to the house and were also tied up in the room. It is understood two more members of the gang kept watch outside.
The thieves made off with a sum of money in a blue Volkswagen Golf, registration number GL59 PYV, belonging to one of the members of the family.
All six are described as being dressed in dark coloured jackets, tracksuits and trainers, with woolly gloves on and balaclavas covering their faces.
Four are described as being approximately 5'8"to 5'11" tall and of slim build, one was much shorter and the last one was over 6' tall, heavy build with grey hair.
Police said the family members were left shocked by the ordeal, which started at about 8pm.
Anyone with information has been asked to come forward.
