The pensioner, who has arthritis, was awoken from her sleep at the house in the Donnybrook area, when it is thought at least one intruder broke in during the early hours of Monday morning.
"I just can't understand why thugs would do this, to old people like this," Stephen Shivers said.
He said that the upstairs of his mother's home had been "totally ransacked".
Jewellery that the elderly victim was wearing was stolen from her, including two gold rings from her fingers and two gold necklaces from her neck.
"Her fingers are quite bent and the joints in her knuckles, so they would have had to prize them off. So (they are) quite badly bruised," Stephen said.
He said his mother has been left traumatised by the incident.
"She doesn't know what way things are or why people would do this," he said.
PSNI are investigating the incident and have asked anyone with information to contact them.
Meanwhile, in Dundrod, Co Antrim, an 80-year-old has been left in a state of shock after three men ransacked her home on Sunday night.
The men broke through the front door but are believed to have made off empty-handed.
