The three defendants deny a total of 56 charges including rape, gross indecency and child cruelty.

They cannot be named to protect the identities of their alleged victims.

The allegations against them come from the children of one defendant.

They claim their father, their uncle and a family friend subjected them to years of rape and other serious sexual assaults.

They say the abuse dates back to the 1990s when the boy was six and the girl was seven years old.

The jury was told about allegations surrounding drinking parties hosted by the father of the alleged victims.

The man's daughter told the court there would be three parties each month over a period of perhaps three years, and at these parties she endured multiple rapes by different men.

By her own estimate, as a young schoolgirl she was raped about 1,000 times.

When asked if she knew the identities of the other men at these parties, she said: "I don't recall their faces any more, I don't recall their voices any more, I don't know who they are."

And when asked how long the abuse would last at these night-time parties, she said: "...sometimes the sun would come up."

Under cross-examination by defence counsel, she was asked if her account was true and if the abuse really took place.

She said: "It did."

It was put to her that if the abuse had gone on for several years during access visits to her father, why didn't she say she didn't want to go her father's?

She told the court: "I was scared of him. I thought he would kill me."

The jury also heard allegations of sexual assaults during family holidays in the Republic - including claims that the girl was tied to a bed inside a caravan and abused.

The trial continues.

I agree people need to listen. They need to know the facts regarding the statistics. False accusations account for only a tiny percentage of all reported cases. In fact sexual abuses are extremely under reported. Many perpetrators will never have to pay for their crimes because victims are too ashamed or afraid to report. It takes so much strength and courage to speak up in the first place! We need a world that doesn't protect the perpetrators. Stop victim blaming. We need more justice for children. Tougher punishment for the perpetrators.

What drives a parent to do the like of that to their own child?

People need to listen when children speak. This is so sad and traumatic for them to relive their torment. They are strong courageous people and true survivors. God bless them.
