The slogan "Still hate your rag S.O.J" was daubed on the wall of George Duddy's Drumaquill Road home on Monday night.
It's the third time the DUP councillor's home has been attacked in the past year.
Corrosive liquid was also poured over a car in the Granary Drive area, causing substantial damage to the vehicle police said.
A Union flag was also removed from the front of a house in the Quilly Road area and graffiti sprayed on the front porch of the house.
Police are investigating a link between the three incidents and are treating them as a hate crime.
Coleraine Mayor George Duddy said: "This was pure sectarianism.
"We have had 17 similar incidents in Coleraine recently and no one has been caught.
"I would hope the police would pull out all the stops to catch those responsible."
Fellow politicians have also condemned the incident.
East Londonderry MLA John Dallat, said those behind the attacks "do not represent the good people of the Coleraine area and have no place in society".
The SDLP representative added: "These despicable attacks must stop, and the people of Coleraine should not tolerate them. No one should ever have to live with such intimidation."
Justice Minister David Ford described those behind the attacks as "faceless cowards".
The Alliance representative added: "These are blatant hate crimes carried out by sectarian people and serve absolutely no purpose but to cause fear and disruption."
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
