Seven people were in the house on Ballymoney Street in the Oldpark area when a shot was fired shortly before 8pm.

It's believed a sawn-off shot gun was used in the attack.

The woman living in the house was too frightened to speak to UTV, but speaking on her behalf, her mother Denise said the children "were in hysterics" following the shooting.

"The kids were in a terrible state, they had to be taken from the house screaming, they didn't know what was going on," she said.

She described her family members being covered in glass, with the shot reaching the living room door and narrowly missing her grandson.

"People in this kitchen could have been killed," she said.

"He could see into this kitchen, the blinds were open, the windows were open, the lights were on, he could blatantly see there were two children sitting in this kitchen, a nine-year-old and a four-year-old and as far as I'm concerned, he set out to murder people in this kitchen last night."

A man was seen running away down an alleyway and driving off from the scene.

Police investigations into the gun attack are continuing - a motive has yet to be established.
